Artist's Comments

This is an ongoing personal project which I've been working on from time to time, while at work... I'm almost done with the textures as well and hopefully will finish the whole thing soon :) In the meantime here's a shaded render of the WIP...

It's a character from the Warhammer 40k universe, a crazy scientist/apothecary... I am not really an expert on the subject but I loved the little sculpts of this particular guy and thought he was rather underrepresented... It's also a challenge, since he's quite far away from the usual subject matter of my models... [He doesn't have hair in this render but he will in the final, coloured version]

It was modeled in XSI and Zbrush

Chaos ain't my thing, but this is cool. Are you planning an example of some of his buddies/experiments?

Love that Fabius, him and Abaddon were my favourite 40k charcters..

May I ask what poly count this is?

thank you! to be honest I have no idea, I usually don't care much for poly count since I'm used to working in high-res only... it's very heavy though [I might check it out tomorrow, out of sheer curiosity :)]

No worries, its fantastic work.
Bit of a poly count freak, finishing a degree in animation at the mo you see, all my models for my film are far too detailed.. =(
Actually, do you use mudbox at all?, its mostly what I model characters with, just wondering if its worth learning z brush aswell..?

yeah it's hard to animate high res stuff :)
I'm personally a Zbrush person :) but I've used Mudbox before. Both are good... I find Zbrush much more versatile, however, Mudbox just doesn't have many features yet [retopology, projection of details from old to new mesh, transpose - to mention just a few that I'm using constantly]. Perhaps in a couple of years I'll switch not now though :)

Mmm alright cool,
thanks m8.
